And a good time was had by all...

Photobucket

Husband and I had almost 2 weeks off, which was lovely. Normally we do go home to Nova Scotia, but we weren't able to this year. While I felt bad because I knew our families were disappointed, it was nice to stay home and relax!

My sister came over on the 30th. Brother-in-law had planned to come as well, but he got sick at the last minute. Sister came anyway because we had big plans! We picked her up at the ferry terminal on Tuesday evening, and headed for Canadian Tire where we picked up painting supplies. Wednesday we relaxed and met friends for dinner. Then Thursday we got down to business: we painted the spare bedroom (or as Sister likes to call it "Sister's room").

It took us 4 days because of the awful dark pink colour on the walls (it was there when we moved in and we never got around to painting). We had to put on two coats of primer, then paint the base colour, then the stripes, then finish touching up on the fourth day.

The boys weren't sure what to make of all the commotion, but yesterday when we were putting the room back together, Fred had to come in for a game of "Make the Bed" with Sister...

And then George had to come check things out as well.

They seem to have decided that it's alright.

Sister and I are quite pleased with how it all turned out. Sister actually deserves the credit, she came up with the plan.

So, that's what I've been up to - it kept us busy. When we weren't playing Debbie Travis we were eating - painting makes you hungry!

I'd like to say that I'm all ready to get back on the straight and narrow, but unfortunately there is still too much crap food in my kitchen. I know that some might deal with that by chucking it all, but I can't bring myself to do that. So instead of going cold turkey on chips & chocolate, I guess I'll be weaning myself off over the next few days. Wish me luck.

Went back to work today. Now I'm really tired so I think I'll be turning in early. Gotta ease back into this work routine thing as well!

Oh wow, I love the stripes! What a great way to play up a room. Was it hard to get the lines straight?

Emily - we put tape on the walls to paint the stripes. It was a little time consuming to get the tape up, and we had to experiment a bit because the instructions in the book we were using didn't work for us. But once we got the tape up, it wasn't bad.

Very nice! I want stripey walls!
Bad Kitten loves to "help" me make my bed....I usually end up with a lumpy duvet! :-)

It looks fantastic! Also cute photo of your kitty in the tissue paper.

No tense moments while painting together? Wow, I'm impressed:D (or is it just wallpapering that should never be done with loved ones?)

Sister and I are both pretty easy going and we get along well. So I don't think we really had any tense moments, aside from the fact that I was tired out to begin with and was having second thoughts about spending my vacation painting.

We cleared out the room Thursday and started painting. Friday morning I woke up with a sore throat. Saturday morning the sore throat was worse. As a matter of fact, before I woke up on Saturday, I had been dreaming that I was trying to take Advil to stop the pain, and I spilled my juice so I tried to clean it up but every time I tried to clean it up I spilled more so I couldn't manage to take any Advil. Then when I did wake up (because George the cat was poking at me with an insistent paw), I stumbled out of bed to discover - with my bare foot - that George the cat had coughed up a hairball on the floor beside my bed. So it wasn't a great start to the day.

At some point, sister and I were having trouble with something - can't remember what now - so I called for Husband. He came and kinda stood there looking at me like "what do you want me to do about it?" at which point I did get very cranky with him and told him to go away. Then he stood there looking at me with that smile on his face that means he is humoring me which really annoyed me so I insisted that he go away.

But aside from that, it all went swimmingly.

What fun to paint the room with stripes!

When I was a young'un, my sister taped an intricate paisley pattern on our bedroom wall, and then painted black lines against the white wall. (Just the one wall, for an accent.) Very striking effect.

So... you going to go on a redecorating binge now? Want to come visit Oregon for awhile? ;)
