In which I allow my Hypochondriac-Self have the floor

Further to yesterday's post: I've been trying not to whine & complain about this but...

I am used to being stuck in a certain range. It was bad enough that in late summer/fall of '07 - after ignoring the scale for about 6 months - I suddenly found that my range had gone up by about 10 lbs. It was not a happy feeling. So back to the scale I went.

Usually, if I am doing things right, even if I don't see the results on the scale, I can at least see some other indicators - I feel better, my clothes fit better, etc. So even if I am bouncing around the same few pounds I figure that as long as I'm not gaining, as long as my clothes are fitting ok, as long as I'm feeling pretty good, then it's not all bad. Maybe not the results I really want, but at least I am maintaining the status quo.

Lately that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't think that I have let my eating habits slip all that much (though I don't claim to be perfect), and I think my workouts have stayed pretty consistent. Still, it seems like I'm gaining - and I'm not just going by the scale; I can see it and I can feel it. I don't know what's going on and it's kinda freaking me out.

If I still had the doctor I had when I first moved here, I might go see him and ask if maybe there could be something wrong. But the few times I have seen doctor #2 (took over doc #1's practice) I have felt like my concerns were not being taken seriously and I'm afraid he'll tell me that I'm fat and it's my own fault - now go home and eat a carrot. I just can't handle that right now.

And it may very well be that I am overreacting, and that I have been letting things slide and maybe I just need to work harder.

I don't know. Have any of you ever had the feeling that something wasn't quite right but you just couldn't put your finger on it? If so, did you figure it out? Did it go away?

I feel silly posting this and probably as soon as I hit "Publish", I will inexplicably feel just fine and wish that I had never said anything. Wah.

Okay. Done whining now.

I have no words of wisdom -- just hang in there!

Perhaps you need to have a complete physical - when was the last time you had one?
Tell your doctor your concerns anyway. If you keep mentioning it, perhaps he'll take you seriously.

I know what you mean. Something just feels off and you don't know quite what it is- I second Bag Lady.

Is there something that makes you feel really good? Like getting a massage or going window shopping or even just stretching or listening to some good music? Sometimes doing something like that can kind of clear your head and help you to pinpoint what the issue is and how it can be sorted out.

I had that "something not quite right" feeling when the doctor put me on a thyroid medication that didn't agree with me. Horrible sensation.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Hope you feel better soon!

Hey! I found you through Cranky Fitness. Have you been visiting my blog? Oh my, I feel like we are on the same page (just with a slight difference.) I've been working out and seeing 0 scale results- for like 6 months! Talk about annoying. I can't give you any advice except hang in there, keep doing what you think is right (which probably is) and be patient. Annoying, isn't it? Let me know if you find the magic cure : )

How frustrating!

Don't know if it's coincidence or what, but I'm hearing a lot of similar stuff from other folks too. Time of year? Secret Martian conspiracy to take over earth by messing with our food supply? I don't know what it is, but lots of folks seem to be stalled/"off"/frustrated/not feeling well/ not getting results lately.

Hope nothing is actually wrong! But if it makes you feel any better, I think there are others in the same boat. And I agree, a physical couldn't hurt if you're due for one.

I have never actually had a complete physical (not since I've been old enough to remember anyway). I always figured if I needed that, a doctor would say so.

I have not been feeling right for a while now, but it seems like a bunch of things that have been hard to put my finger on. So I feel like I wouldn't know what to say. I don't feel sick exactly, but I don't feel good either...It all seems so vague.

I'm thinking of giving it a couple of weeks, see if I can tune in and figure out what's bothering me...But yeah, I may have to break down and actually go to the doctor. Wah.

Anyway, thanks for making me think I'm not being crazy. It really helps!
