Happy Canada Day!

At the beginning of the June I started Angie Schumacher's Fat Blasting Boot Camp. I'm into week 5 now and I think it's a great program. It's quick which makes it easy to fit into my schedule and each of the 3 workouts per week is different which keeps it interesting. So far so good!

I am also pleased to report that my foot seems to be almost back to normal. I've still been taking it easy and finding that I have to take it slow when doing walking workouts, but it's definitely better. I still notice that if I've been on my feet more than usual it doesn't quite feel right, but I hope it will be back to 100% soon.

How I Spent My Canada Day

Woke up around 7:30. Decided it was too early to get up, went back to sleep. Woke up again around 8 am and decided I might as well get up.

Enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and pot of coffee sitting on the couch reading
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Finished my book and dragged myself off the comfy couch. Threw on the workout gear and did my Boot Camp for the day. Puttered a bit, doing some cleaning, had a shower, had lunch, puttered some more.

It wasn't exactly a sunny day, there was rain earlier in the morning but by afternoon it seemed to have cleared off. I have had some plants sitting on the deck waiting to be transplanted for weeks now. Decided the weather was decent enough for that.

First to go in ~ a Black Lace Elderberry took over the top right hand corner of this flower bed. There was some bush or other there when we bought the house. I don't know what it was, but it was none too healthy and it didn't survive. For a few years now I've been thinking I needed to find something else for that spot. Finally done!

Maybe not the best choice, it does blend in with the mulch a bit, but it is supposed to have pretty flowers in the spring so we shall see. According to the tag this should be a "deer resistant" plant. Between you and me, I don't think the deer bother much with reading those tags because I've found they'll eat whatever they please - tag or no. Still seems safer buying the one marked "deer resistant" though, so here's hoping!

The flower bed by the driveway had been looking like it still had some blank spots that needed a bit of color, so a few more plants went in here as well.

I took a break during the afternoon to talk to my Mom on the phone, so I didn't finish everything. I still have these guys to get transplanted:

The back row of pots are things I have growing on the deck this year. The first one has a Rocky Hybrid Cucumber plant, and the 2nd & 3rd have basil and Thai Green Eggplants.

I remember the cucumber plants in my parents garden as great, sprawling vines, which I do not have space for in my little garden. But there are some varieties of miniature cucumbers which can be trellised and/or grown in containers. This Rocky Cucumber being one of them.

See the tiny cucumbers starting:

This is my first try at these, but so far so good.

The Cupid Tomatoes are loaded with blossoms! Last year I was really impressed with the yield from my two little Cupid Tomato plants and if the blossoms are anything to go by, they should do really well again this year!

I also have a few pea blossoms already. The plants - these are Sugar Snap Peas - seem small to be blossoming already, but I guess they will keep growing? Maybe they need sun?

And my purple basil is starting. Isn't it cute?

Husband and I made a Thai Shrimp & Noodle stir fry for supper. It was sort of a spontaneous thing and we were scrounging the kitchen to figure out what to throw in, but it turned out well.

Husband served us both and when I sat down with my bowl I realized it was quite a hefty portion. But, I confess, I ate it all. It was tasty.

While eating dinner I watched the
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone movie on DVD. Thus begins my Harry-Potter-athon as Husband calls it. The new movie is out in a couple of weeks, so I'm getting into Harry Potter mode.

While we were eating dinner it started to rain again. Ah well.

Now I look at the clock and see it's almost bed time again! But I had a good day and now there are only two more days to the weekend!

Off to bed I go, with
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets!

Miz - Twilight was awful (just my opinion). Harry Potter is awesome. :)

I am with Miz - have not read Harry Potter, and probably never will.

But your garden looks wonderful and your Thai shrimp stir fry looked delicious!
